In addition to being “burner specialists,” ACSI is among a select group of firms that offer combustion-related refractory products and services nationwide.
What is a Refractory?
Refractories are ceramic materials designed to withstand very high temperatures encountered. More heat-resistant than metals, they line the hot surfaces found in a number of processes in modern manufacturing.
In addition to industrial uses, refractories are also present in kilns or fireplaces. The manufacturing sector, however, uses refractory materials on a much larger scale.
ACSI’s Refractory Services and Applications for Boilers and Furnaces
ACSI’s refractory services accommodate all types of boilers and furnaces including:
- Industrial ovens
- Thermal oxidizers
- New burner installations requiring front wall modifications
- All types of furnaces such as reactors, ladles, and stills
Refractory Services and Refractory Installation
First, we identify the refractory liner most suitable for an application, assessing the frequency of on-off cycling, insulation value, jacket appearance, thermal shock, exposure to chemical agents, catalytic heat, and combustion efficiency.
ACSI engineers then create custom molds produced at our facility in Mokena, Illinois. We mix high-temperature ceramic materials to form burner blocks that withstand up to 2100°F. We also take into account the weight of the lining, accurately identifying it across a light to heavy spectrum, in order to prevent potential cracking due to stress.
Our heat resistant refractory linings provide premium insulation value, higher resistance to thermal shock, faster heating and cooling of the combustion chamber, and greater overall efficiency. ACSI’s refractory services oftentimes add years to a boiler’s operation.
The Combustion Alliance Network
The Combustion alliance is a network of industrial combustion specialist organizations networking together to provide a wide spectrum of services and solutions. With hundreds of years of collective experience and multiple locations beyond the Chicagoland area and throughout the Midwest, The Combustion Alliance is your single destination for your combustion requirements.
Annual Safety Checks and Refractory Maintenance
ACSI provides annual safety checks in addition to refractory installation and creation services. Our experienced technicians will:
- Inspect flame sensing devices for condition, location, and cleanliness
- Test wiring for shorts and loose connections
- Inspect burners and pilots
- Test main fuel hand valves for operation
